Freedom Toaster Media Lounge

The Media Lounge is a resource for journalists and toaster fundi's. It provides resources for reports and stories about the freedom toaster, for anyone who wants to spread the word!


Want Toast?

There is some awesome software that you can toast onto CD's at the Freedom Toaster. Here is what you will find:

LINUX BASED OPERATING SYSTEM DISTRIBUTIONS:

  • Ubuntu Warty, Hoary, and Hoary Live CD
    Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support. The Ubuntu community is built on the ideas enshrined in the Ubuntu Manifesto: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customise and alter their software in whatever way they see fit.
    The Live version can be booted directly from the CD without the need to install to the hard drive.


  • Mandrake 10 and Mandriva LE2005 (10.2)
    Mandrake Linux is a friendly Linux Operating System which specializes in ease-of-use for both servers and the home/office. It is freely available in many languages throughout the world.

  • Fedora Core 3 and 4
    The Fedora Project is a Red-Hat-sponsored and community-supported open source project. The goal of the fedora Project is to work with the Linux community to build a complete, general purpose operating system exclusively from free software.

  • Debian Sarge (31r0a) - all 14 CDs!
    The Debian project is an association of individuals who have made common cause to create a free operating system. This operating system that they have created is called Debian GNU/Linux, or simply Debian for short.

  • K12LTSP (FC3 based)
    K12LTSP is based on the Fedora Project and the LTSP terminal server packages. It's easy to install and configure, and it's distributed under the GNU General Public Licence. This distribution is used in the Shuttleworth tuXlabs project for schools.

  • FreeBSD 5.2.1, 5.3.1 and 5.4

  • Whitebox Liberation

  • Gentoo 1.4rc and 2005.0
    Gentoo Linux, a special flavour of Linux that can be automatically optimized and customized for just about any application or need. Extreme configurability, performance and a top-notch user and developer community are all hallmarks of the Gentoo experience.

  • Slackware 10 and 10.1
    Slackware Linux is an advanced Linux operating system, designed with the twin goals of ease of use and stability as top priorities. Including the latest popular software while retaining a sense of tradition, providing simplicity and ease of use alongside flexibility and power.

  • SuSE 9.2 Pro and 9.3
    Fast and secure, SUSE LINUX Professional 9.2 from Novell includes an operating system, more than 1,000 popular open source applications and improved support for mobile devices.

  • Knoppix 3.6 and 3.9
    KNOPPIX is a bootable CD with a collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a Linux demo, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it.

  • Cluster Knoppix
    ClusterKnoppix is a modified Knoppix distribution using the OpenMosix kernel. OpenMosix is a Linux kernel extension for single-system image clustering. This kernel extension turns a network of ordinary computers into a supercomputer for Linux applications.

  • Impi 1.0 and 2.0
