Impi Linux and The Shuttleworth Foundation have announced a combined exhibition of several related initiatives; these include the Linux Professional Institute (LPI), Freedom Toaster, tuXlabs and Impi Linux itself. The exhibition will be co-hosted at LinuxWorld, taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 16 to 19 May, co-located with Equip and Futurex.
Says tuXlab project manager, Hilton Theunissen, "These four initiatives will be flying the banner of the Shuttleworth Foundation at LinuxWorld. We share a common message surrounding the promotion of Linux and open source software and want to bring this to the public as a united front."

The Shuttleworth Foundation's Freedom Toasters are set to receive a content-sharing upgrade, which will be music to some users' ears.
Up until now, Freedom Toasters have essentially been open source software vending machines – enabling users to burn open source software and content onto CDs and DVDs. Lead developer, Jason Hudson, says they now want to encourage a two-way flow of information through the project.
"We're now enabling the Freedom Toaster to allow for the upload of information from users," says Hudson. "We're looking at having USB slots available, so that [users] can either plug in their iPod, or USB key, or any sort of storage device that the Linux system can read," says Hudson.

The Freedom Toaster is constantly being improved, updated and maintained by its developers and committed members of the open source development community. As news of the Toaster spreads and the existing units see more time spent in public, lessons are learned and the requirements that become apparent are incorporated into its development.
